Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of mortality and morbidity in adults worldwide.1 Coronary angiography (CAG) is the gold standard method for evaluating atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD).2 It is conventionally performed via the trans-femoral (TF) route. Recently, however, the trans-radial (TR) route has become the preferred way.3 The TR route offers better procedure comfort, shorter hospitalization […]

Article

Welcome to the winter 2019 edition of the European Journal of Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology, which is my first edition as a member of the Editorial Board for this excellent free-to-access publication.

This issue shines with an amazing array of articles which we are sure you will enjoy reading. All the key bases in arrhythmia and electrophysiology are covered, starting with an excellent round-up of the evidence that has accumulated in recent years on His bundle pacing, tips on implantation technique and future directions. If you are seriously thinking about starting a programme of physiological pacing this is a ‘must read’ article for device implanters. Then follows an important article discussing all aspects of prevention in atrial fibrillation, including the concept of ‘primordial’ prevention, i.e., early intervention prior to the onset of risk factors that precede disease. It highlights that we can, and should, do a lot more in all stages of life to avoid this preventable disease.

Ahluwalia et al. discuss the contentious issue of discontinuation of anticoagulation post catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, by examining the current data that exist to support our decision making with patients. Finally, we head to the ventricle with Scrocco et al. to understand medical management options for the somewhat poorly understood phenomenon of idiopathic ventricular fibrillation.

We are currently welcoming submissions to our summer edition. Please do not hesitate to submit reviews, original research, case reports and editorials for consideration, and as a reminder, submissions can be made through our online submission system at: www.editorialmanager.com/touchcardio or by contacting the journal’s Editor (E: heather.hall@touchmedicalmedia.com).

We hope that you enjoy reading this edition and if you have not yet had the opportunity to look at the videos on the website, then please do so as there is a wealth of content from leaders in the field of electrophysiology. Please do provide your feedback and comments on any of our articles or content on the touchCARDIO.com site.
