When performing percutaneous left atrial appendage (LAA) closure, challenges arise that impact clinical outcomes and cardiac computed tomography (CCT)- based patient-specific computational simulations provide device-host interactions. In this touchCARDIO interview, we speak with Dr Ole De Backer (Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark) to discuss these challenges and the use of cardiac computed tomography (CCT)- based patient-specific computational simulations in LAA closure to combat these.
The abstract entitled ‘The Value of FEops HEARTguideâ„¢ Computational Modeling in the Planning of Percutaneous LAA Closure: The PREDICT LAA Trial’ was presented at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference, 16 – 19, September 2022.
Questions:
- What are the challenges in obtaining a successful percutaneous left atrial appendage (LAA) closure? (0:17)
- Could you tell us a little about the use of cardiac computed tomography (CCT)- based patient-specific computational simulations in LAA closure? (1:02)
Disclosures: Ole De Backer has nothing to disclose in relation to this video interview.
Support: Interview and filming supported by Touch Medical Media. Interview conducted by Danielle Crosby.
Filmed as a highlight of TCT 2022
