Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A)

Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A)

Arrhythmia Alliance (A-A) is a global coalition of charities, patient groups, caregivers, medical professionals, and allied health experts, all working together to support the timely and effective diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Although each group within the coalition remains independent, they collaborate under the A-A umbrella to promote awareness, education, and advancements in heart rhythm care across the world.

Events and Campaigns

The charity supports patients and healthcare professionals through initiatives such as Patient Education Resources, online Coffee Mornings, a Helpline, and email service. Key campaigns include Know Your Pulse, with community pulse check events, and Defibs Save Lives, which promotes the life-saving role of defibrillators. World Heart Rhythm Week unites professionals, patients, and the public to raise awareness of arrhythmias and early detection. Each year, the charity hosts the Heart Rhythm Congress (HRC) and Patients Day, providing platforms for knowledge exchange and sharing the latest advancements in heart rhythm care.

In addition, A-A manages international programmes, including:

A-A Pace4Life

Pace4Life addresses the global issue of pacemaker accessibility. It is dedicated to donating cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), including pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), to individuals in need in Low- or Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). These lifesaving devices are provided to patients who would otherwise lack the means or access to obtain them. The charity also facilitates medical training, organises implant missions, and offers ongoing online support to ensure the success of these programmes.

A-A Hearts of Ghana

Hearts of Ghana is an Arrhythmia Alliance programme that provides life-saving surgeries for people who would not otherwise have access; and helps train local cardiac teams to perform these procedures themselves. The goal is to support UGMC (University of Ghana Medical Centre, based in Accra, Ghana) in becoming fully independent in cardiac surgery. To date, Hearts of Ghana has completed six life-saving missions, with more planned throughout the year.
