We are delighted to welcome Dr Sushant Saluja, NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at the University of Manchester, to our Editorial Board. Dr Saluja brings a distinguished record in interventional cardiology, population genetics and precision medicine, with research published in leading journals including Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, European Heart Journal and the Journal of Hypertension.
Dr Saluja’s academic work focuses on genetically informed precision medicine for hypertension, leveraging multi-omic kidney analyses to identify novel therapeutic targets. His commitment to advancing evidence-based cardiovascular care is reflected in his active roles with the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) and the European Society of Hypertension (ESH), as well as his regular participation at major international meetings, including the ESH annual meeting, BCS conference, European Society of Cardiology (ESC) congress and American Heart Association (AHA) scientific sessions.
Reflecting on the evolving clinical landscape and current innovations shaping cardiovascular medicine, Dr Saluja said: “2025 has delivered substantial progress in cardiovascular medicine, advancing precision therapies, diagnostics, and genetic insights. GLP-1 receptor agonists have demonstrated significant benefits in managing heart failure among patients with obesity and cardiometabolic risks, expanding their role beyond diabetes. AI-enhanced electrocardiography now identifies subtle structural heart diseases like amyloidosis and predicts arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation with greater reliability, enabling earlier interventions. CRISPR-based gene editing has progressed toward treating hereditary cardiomyopathies by targeting amyloid-producing proteins, marking a milestone in molecular therapies. Anti-inflammatory agents modulating IL-6 pathways are enhancing outcomes alongside established lipid-lowering strategies, while polygenic risk scores refine cardiovascular disease prediction across diverse populations. Emerging pulsed-field ablation techniques offer safer alternatives for rhythm control, and digital twins support personalised simulations for complex cases. These innovations in pharmacotherapy, artificial intelligence, genomics, and minimally invasive procedures promise more tailored prevention, diagnosis, and treatment paradigms.”
Dr Saluja shared that the aspects of the role that most excite him include contributing expertise to evidence-based reviews on precision cardiology and hypertension genetics, advancing multi-omic approaches to clinical translation, and promoting equitable access to genomic insights in cardiovascular care.
Reflecting on his decision to join Heart International’s Editorial Board, he added:
“Thrilled by touchCARDIO’s commitment to cutting-edge cardiovascular education, I eagerly accept to contribute my expertise in precision medicine and genomics. I look forward to supporting the journal’s mission through rigorous peer review and advancing clinical translation.”
We warmly welcome Dr Saluja to the Editorial Board and look forward to the insight, expertise and leadership he will bring to Heart International and touchCARDIO.com.
