The ESC Congress 2026 will bring the international cardiovascular community to Munich, Germany, from August 28–31, with a scientific program spanning new clinical evidence, emerging technologies, and practical approaches to improving cardiovascular care.1
This year, several themes stand out, from the release of major new clinical guidelines to a dedicated spotlight on artificial intelligence (AI). The meeting will also feature a record 59 trials across 12 Hot Line sessions, providing first presentations of findings that could influence future clinical practice.1,2

New guidelines take center stage
Three new ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines will be released during the congress: the 2026 ESC Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure, 2026 ESC Guidelines on Cardiac Rehabilitation, and 2026 ESC Guidelines for the Management of Cardiovascular Disease and Chronic Kidney Disease.1
The congress will also see the release of the 5th Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction, developed in collaboration with the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and World Heart Federation.1
Rather than focusing only on publication of the documents themselves, the program will include interactive “Ask the Task Force” sessions with guideline authors and “Guidelines in Practice” sessions using clinical cases to explore how recommendations can be translated into everyday care.1

A dedicated Cardiometabolic Track will examine the interplay between obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, including emerging metabolic therapies and interventional approaches.1
The new guideline addressing cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease further reflects this shift toward more integrated management of patients whose cardiovascular risk cannot easily be considered within a single specialty.1
Looking toward the next generation of cardiovascular therapies
While much of ESC Congress is focused on evidence that can inform current practice, the New Horizons in Cardiology Track will look further ahead.
Sessions will explore emerging diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, including biological therapies and gene-editing technologies, across conditions such as heart failure, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.1
